About Geni

As detailed on https://www.geni.com/corp/ Geni enables families to connect, share, and preserve their lives.

Users can build their family tree through a fun, simple interface. Relatives who are added to the tree can join Geni and add other relatives. This makes it easy to grow your tree.

Everyone in the tree has a profile which showing details about them and allowing other family members or relatives to connect. Families can work together to build profiles from common ancestors.

Family members can share photos, videos, events, discussions, and more. A family timeline shows the history of everyone in the family.

Geni is private. Only the people in your family tree can log in to your tree and see your profile. Geni will not share your personal information with third parties. Geni will not sell your email address or spam you. Users control which communications they would like to receive from Geni.

Geni was founded by former executives and early employees of PayPal, eGroups, eBay, and Tribe, and is backed by venture capital firms Founders Fund and Charles River Ventures.

Getting Started

Unless you are setting up your own tree from scratch, your first encounter with Geni will normally be via an email from a family member who has invited you to join their family tree.

This email, entitled, “I’ve added you to our family tree’, includes a Web link to the Geni website and specifically the family tree you have been invited to join.

Once you have accepted the invitation by clicking the weblink in the email your web browser will open a page the Geni Welcome page confirming that you have accepted the invitation request. This page also includes the suggestion to invite members of your immediate family to the tree. I recommend you skip this step for now until you are more familiar with Geni.

When you press ‘Skip’ the web browser will update and load the family tree. This may take a few moments.

At this moment you may see a pop-up message on the webpage saying ‘Welcome to Geni!’ and giving you your login username and password details. It is useful to note these down somewhere safe as you will need these details to log into the tree during future sessions. You will also be emailed this information from Geni.
